Window patching — die-cut windows with clear film

Window patching: show the product without opening the box.

A die-cut aperture in the carton with a clear film patched behind it, so the product sells itself from the shelf. Any shape, on folding cartons, bakery boxes, sleeves and retail packaging.

What a window is

An aperture, a film and a product that sells itself.

A window is cut into the carton on the die at the same time as the outline, and a clear film is glued behind it from the inside. The customer sees the product — a bar of soap, a cookie, a lipstick shade, a toy — without opening the box, and the carton keeps the print space, the structure and the brand around it. Windows can be any shape: a rectangle, a circle, the outline of the brand mark.

Open windows without film suit products that benefit from air, like bar soap, or dry goods in a sleeve. Filmed windows suit food, cosmetics and anything that must stay clean and closed.

Materials & finishing

Films and how windows are specified.

The window is part of the dieline; the film is patched on the inside face. Board around the aperture is kept strong enough not to tear at the corners.

Window questions

Before you ask.

Anything not covered here, put it in the notes on your quote and we will answer it directly.

Ask on your quote

Can a window be any shape?

Yes. The window is cut on the die, so any vector shape works — including a brand mark — as long as the board around it stays strong.

Is the film food-safe?

Film and adhesive are specified for food-contact use where the product touches them, and the material specification is supplied with your quote.

Does a window weaken the carton?

A well-placed window on the right board does not. We keep margins around the aperture and avoid corners under load.

Can I have a window without film?

Yes. Open windows suit soap, dry goods and sleeves where the product benefits from air or should be touched.
