Rigid boxes — magnetic closure

Custom Magnetic Closure Boxes

A magnetic closure box is a one-piece rigid box: a wrapped greyboard base with a hinged lid that folds over the front and is held shut by magnets concealed under the wrap. Buyers choose it for the opening — a firm pull, a click on closing — and because customers keep it. Cosmetics, electronics, gift sets and subscription kits are the usual contents.

Construction

How it is built, and how it opens.

  • How it is built

The base, back wall and lid are one greyboard structure. Panels are cut and scored, glued into a tray with a fixed back, and the lid continues from the back wall over a wrapped hinge. The lid's front flap folds down over the front wall. Magnets are set into the front wall and the flap during assembly and covered by the wrap, so the finished box shows no hardware and arrives with hinge and flap aligned.

  • How it opens and closes

Lift the front flap and the lid swings back on the hinge, opening flat so the whole interior and insert are visible at once. Closing is a matter of dropping the lid: the magnets pull the last short distance and give the click buyers ask for. Magnet count and position are chosen to the lid's width, so a wide lid does not lift at the corners.

  • Board and wrap

Greyboard from 1.5 mm to 3 mm is the core, thicker for larger lids or heavier contents. The outer wrap is full-color printed art paper, or a textured, linen, kraft or leatherette paper where the surface should be felt rather than read. An inner liner, plain or printed, covers the inside faces. Foil stamping, embossing, debossing and spot UV go onto the wrap before it is laminated to the board, and lamination is included.

  • Packing, shipping and cost

Fixed magnetic boxes are delivered assembled, so they take more storage and freight than a carton; where that matters, a collapsible version folds flat and snaps up at packing. The magnet holds the flap shut inside a courier carton, though a belly band is often added for retail. Against a two-piece box it costs a little more to make; against a printed carton a great deal more, which is the trade for the presentation.

What it suits

Where a magnetic closure box earns its place.

  • Cosmetics and skincare sets

Bottles, jars and compacts held in a die-cut board insert and revealed together when the lid opens flat.

  • Electronics and accessories

A foam or board cradle for the device with a cable cavity beside it, in a box the customer keeps.

  • Gift sets

Seasonal and corporate gifting where the box is part of the gift and the lid carries a foil mark.

  • Subscription kits

A collapsible magnetic version keeps the presentation while arriving flat at the packing table.

  • Jewelry and watches

A small box with a fabric-wrapped platform, where the click of the closure is part of the presentation.

Magnetic Closure questions

Before you ask.

Anything not covered here, put it in the notes on your quote and we will answer it directly.

Ask on your quote

What is a magnetic closure box?

A one-piece rigid box whose lid is hinged at the back and held shut at the front by magnets hidden under the wrap. It arrives assembled and opens flat.

Can the magnets be seen?

No. They sit in the board under the wrap and the inner liner. The only sign of them is the pull when the lid closes.

Does a magnetic box need an insert?

Usually. The box opens flat, so whatever is inside is on show. A board, foam or fabric-wrapped insert holds each item in place and presents it.

What is the minimum order for custom magnetic closure boxes?

The minimum order for custom magnetic closure boxes is 50 boxes, the same as every structure we make. Your quote shows the price at each quantity you ask for.

How long does production take?

Standard production is 10–12 working days from proof approval and payment. Ground shipping adds 3–5 working days, and delivery is free on every order.

Can I get a sample before the full run?

Standalone samples are chargeable, because making one box or a handful takes the same setup and production steps as a full run. On a qualifying bulk order, once the order is placed we produce a pre-production sample for your approval at no extra sample charge, and the remaining quantity runs after you approve it.
